Sacramento is home to several historic areas of interest. Sutter’s Fort is one of the oldest structures in the Sacramento area; it is now part of Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park. The Sacramento Shakespeare Festival includes outdoor performances during the summer at William Land Park. Community Theatres are also common in Sacramento. Popular community theatres include 24th Street Theatre, Magic Castle Theatre, Kockaburra Productions, and Light Opera Theatre of Sacramento.

Museums are also abundant in the Sacramento area. Some interesting museums in the area include: the Crocker Art Museum, the California State Railroad Museum, the California Automobile Museum, and the Sacramento History Museum. Parks in the area include the Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park, Discovery Park and the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail. The Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail runs from Old Sacramento to Folsom Lake and grants access to the American River Parkway, which is over 5,000 acres enjoyed by bicyclists and equestrians. Sacramento is also home to professional sports teams including the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and the Triple A affiliate of the Oakland A’s, the Sacramento River Cats.
